Blepharoplasty in Salt Lake City, UTA blepharoplasty may be just the ticket if you looking for a way to appear younger, more energetic and less tired. Blepharoplasty is another term for eyelid surgery. It refers to surgery of the upper eyelid, the lower eyelid, or both. It is a procedure designed to remove sagging skin from the eyelids and improve the appearance of the eye. It can also reduce puffiness around the eyes, and we find it helps our patients whose sagging eyelids obstruct their vision.

You would be a good candidate for blepharoplasty if:

  • People tell you that you always look tired
  • You have fatty deposits above or below your eyes
  • You have sagging drooping eyelids that are making you appear older
  • You have excess skin on your eyelids that are impairing your vision
  • You have puffy eyelids
  • You have bags under your eyes

What happens during and after the procedure?

Blepharoplasty is performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. It may take several hours depending on the extent of the surgery. Most patients return home the same day but must have someone to drive them home and stay with them for the first night.

During surgery, incisions are made in the crease of the upper eyelid or below the lash line on the lower eyelid. The excess fat and skin are removed and the incision is carefully closed with tiny sutures. A blepharoplasty may be combined with a facelift or brow lift.

  • Stitches are usually removed after a week.
  • Plan on returning to work two to three weeks after the surgery.
  • Most patients are able to resume exercise and other more strenuous activities after about three weeks.
  • The scars will be well concealed and they will fade and get progressively lighter over the next six months until they are undetectable.
