Live Healthy: How Drinking More Water Can Positively Impact Your Eyesight

Making healthy choices every day is hard. The thought of trading in your large coffee and donut for a green smoothie can be enough to make you want to pull your hair out. But living healthy isn’t just about depriving yourself of the good things in life— it’s about ensuring that your entire body— including your eyesight— stays as strong and healthy as possible. By simply switching from soda or coffee to water, you will notice that you are thinner, you have more energy, and that you can see things more clearly. So, how can drinking more water positively impact your eyesight? Read on to learn more.

No More Dry Eye

Even though your caffeine intake is probably the only way you consider yourself to be a functioning adult, did you know that caffeine can dehydrate you? And, once your body is dehydrated, it will stop producing things like saliva and tears to lubricate your eyes. If your eyes are no longer lubricated, then you can develop a condition called “chronic dry eye” which can make your eyes tired, itchy, and just overall uncomfortable. Luckily, by adding more water into your diet, you can ensure that your eyes don’t become dehydrated.

Having dehydrated eyes can, in fact, lead to the chronic dry eye but above all, it can make things like wearing contact lenses to be beyond uncomfortable. Luckily by keeping your eyes moisturized, wearing contacts every day won’t be painful, itchy, or uncomfortable.

If you aren’t in the healthy habit of drinking at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water every day, you aren’t doing your body any favors. By keeping your heart healthy, your blood sugar regulated, and your eyes lubricated, drinking enough water is the best thing you can do for your health.
