What causes loose skin?

Tight smooth skin comes from the interaction between elastin and collagen fibers in the dermis. Aging naturally decreases the skin’s elastin concentration. As elastin decreases, the skin begins to droop and sag. Significant weight fluctuations and pregnancy also cause the skin to loosen and sag.

What happens with a Thermacell treatment?

Thermacell treatment uses radio frequency energy to penetrate the skin and heat its deeper layers. It’s similar to the VaserShape treatment, although Thermacell has the advantage of allowing treatments on the face and neck.

How does Thermacell tighten the skin?

Using radio frequency technology, the skin is heated to a depth of 2.5 mm. Cells expel toxins that are later excreted by the body. Plus, when collagen and elastin in your skin are heated, your body reacts as if a wound has occurred and responds by producing new collagen, which further tightens the skin.

What happens during a Thermacell treatment?

Thermacell treatments are fairly relaxing. After applying a gel, the hand piece emitting radio frequency energy is rubbed over the treatment area. Your skin is warmed to 45 degrees Celsius to properly stimulate the skin. A single treatment can take about 30 minutes to an hour. Dr. Dunkley recommends multiple treatments per week to get the best results with six treatments being the ideal. Even after just a single treatment, though, patients notice significant differences in their skin.

Will there be pain during my Thermacell treatment?

Thermacell treatment are not painful. Patients compare treatments to a massage. A feeling of warmth in the treatment areas occurs. Follwing your treatment, do not ice the skin or immediately return to cold outdoor activities. The longer the skin stays warm, the better. Best of all, there is no recovery time. Return to work or school without concern.
